New Songs
Muse is one of my all time favorite bands. They have a singer who can do whatever he wants, they take risks, and they have talent that isn't hidden behind a desire to be cool. More importantly, they have that quality that makes people love them or hate them. I like polarization, especially in art. If EVERYONE likes something or EVERYONE hates something, then chances are whatever is the target of these feelings isn't really that great to begin with.
I digress...
The reason I bring up Muse is that they have a new single out and it is COMPLETELY different from everything they've done before. It has the same falsetto voice and apocalyptic lyrics, but now there is a more pronounced dance beat and a "Gorillazesque" melody. I have a feeling they are going to catch a lot of shit for this, but I think it is an interesting tune. Do I like it? I don't know. We'll have to wait and see. I generally don't have a good opinion of a piece of music until I hear it at least 10 times.
You know who else has a new song out? The god damn Red Hot Chili Peppers. I've heard this song well over ten times, actually closer to ten thousand, and I can tell you that it is the SAME FUCKING THING THEY HAVE DONE FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS!!!! Please guys, put the socks back on your dicks, start doing drugs again and write some of that gritty funk you used to do the first time Frusciante (or however the hell you spell his name) was in the band.
Calexico's new album is stellar. The singer sounds a little like David Grey to me, but the arrangements and the lyrics make up for it.
The new Tool is pretty good. However, it sounds exactly like all other Tool songs. Is this a bad thing?
I'm going to import the Pipettes record when it drops. Every single they have put out is spectacular.
Let's see...
Oh. The new Pearl Jam sounds like a drunk version of the band that recorded Vs. I suppose this is a step in the right direction.
I don't see what the fuss is all about with regards to The Arctic Monkeys. They're good, but not great. Get over it NME.
Hard-Fi is my favorite guilty pleasure at the moment. Everything about these guys makes me think I shouldn't dig their tunes. However, I can't help it. "Hard to Beat" is a fucking classic.
So are you my dearest reader.
