Barack Obama Better Not Let Me Down

I'm a big Barack Obama supporter. I'm pretty liberal, so I kind of like him by default. However, I do think he has some great qualities that transcend his democratic party affiliation. He's a hell of a speaker and has a commanding presence. I know those sound trivial, but it really helps. He also seems, up to this point, to really care about bringing people together to work on issues. The thing about him that I like the most though is that he oozes intelligence. He just seems smart. I want my president to be smarter than me. I want him to be able to think long and hard about deeply complex issues and come up with solutions that wouldn't even occur to me. I voted for Barack Obama, and I am pretty excited about him. I am definitely caught up in the hoopla a little, but that's okay. However, as the title of this post implies, I am a little nervous.

Barack Obama better not let me down.

The guy has been sanctified already. People talk about him like he's the second coming of whatever deity they choose. He's not our savior. He's a politician. He's going to say one thing and do another. There is no way he'll be able to deliver on all the promises he made during the campaign. Our society is just a little too messed up to change that much in four years. All of these criticisms being said, he is by far the most dynamic man to take the office in my lifetime. That distinction creates a weight and responsibility to deliver for me and the rest of his supporters. Barack, I know you aren't going to be 100% the savior everyone expects you to be, but just don't let us down.

One last thing. The Christian conservatives better shut their mouths and let the guy do his job. He's just as much of a believer as the rest of them, he just happens to realize that in a modern society things like abortion must unfortunately exist. He goes to church every Sunday and was sworn in on the same Bible religious conservatives use every day. Can we try, just for once, not to be divisive?
