JustinSpeak A Look Inside the Mind of Justin Schmidt

I Am Going to Censor Myself

My dearest readers, I am going to clean up my language a bit here on JustinSpeak. I'm not going to hold any opinions back, but I am going to replace some four letter words with more palatable substitutes. It pains me to do this, but the more I get involved with the Web, the more my footprints are going to get noticed.

I'm also going to add a disclaimer page that thoroughly explains how the views and opinions of this blog are in no way related to the views and opinions of my employer, friends, etc. Expect to see it soon.

This move isn't a cowardly bow to my overlords. Instead, it is an acknowledgement that I want people to hear my voice, know I speak my mind, and respect me for it. One thing that, unfortunately, is true is that language is important. I need to come across as a professional.

Barack Obama Better Not Let Me Down

Barack ObamaI'm a big Barack Obama supporter. I'm pretty liberal, so I kind of like him by default. However, I do think he has some great qualities that transcend his democratic party affiliation. He's a hell of a speaker and has a commanding presence. I know those sound trivial, but it really helps. He also seems, up to this point, to really care about bringing people together to work on issues. The thing about him that I like the most though is that he oozes intelligence. He just seems smart. I want my president to be smarter than me. I want him to be able to think long and hard about deeply complex issues and come up with solutions that wouldn't even occur to me. I voted for Barack Obama, and I am pretty excited about him. I am definitely caught up in the hoopla a little, but that's okay. However, as the title of this post implies, I am a little nervous.

Barack Obama better not let me down.

The guy has been sanctified already. People talk about him like he's the second coming of whatever deity they choose. He's not our savior. He's a politician. He's going to say one thing and do another. There is no way he'll be able to deliver on all the promises he made during the campaign. Our society is just a little too messed up to change that much in four years. All of these criticisms being said, he is by far the most dynamic man to take the office in my lifetime. That distinction creates a weight and responsibility to deliver for me and the rest of his supporters. Barack, I know you aren't going to be 100% the savior everyone expects you to be, but just don't let us down.

One last thing. The Christian conservatives better shut their mouths and let the guy do his job. He's just as much of a believer as the rest of them, he just happens to realize that in a modern society things like abortion must unfortunately exist. He goes to church every Sunday and was sworn in on the same Bible religious conservatives use every day. Can we try, just for once, not to be divisive?

Need To Advance To The Second Round? Be Like Katrina Darrell, Wear a Bikini

American Idol is such a freaking joke. The latest in a long list of reasons why the previous sentence rings true is the story of miss Katrina Darrell. See, Katrina wanted to mix a little shock value with her Idol audition so she came dressed in as little clothes as possible. Now I like seeing hot chicks in a bikini, don't get me wrong, but c'mon. I want American Idol to add the qualification that people must be able to write their own songs and pass a musical IQ test before they can even walk on the stage. I'm fully aware that its a show to find "singers" and not "artists" but as someone who spends a fair chunk of his free time writing songs, I get a little pissed off at this shit.

Without further adieu, Katrina Darrell:

She isn't a terrible singer, but most people Simon and Company let on to the next round are good singers. Sigh... I wonder if Thom Yorke would make it to Hollywood?
