Goodbye Gas Mileage Page11.12.08

I removed the gas mileage page due to my frustration with keeping receipts, writing down mileage totals, and my frustration with FuelFrog. They simply did not deliver the best way to keep track of your gas mileage. I’m going to edit this post later tonight with some sites to track your gas mileage, but fuelfrog couldn’t keep me happy.

Sick Steve Jobs?09.09.08

Okay, we at JustinSpeak aren’t ones to spread rumors and untruths, but I can’ help but say it.

Steve Jobs looks very sick.

Those who know me well know I’m a big Apple fanboi.  I think Steve Jobs is a visionary and probably the greatest Marketer since Ogilvy.  I do hope he’s okay.  We’re all rooting for you Steve. Get better.

Steve Jobs has fought cancer. However, he has overcome it once before.  I think he can do it again. If any of you out there have battled cancer, in any of its forms, or know someone who has, please do something to help.  I found a few links to places that you can donate money to if you don’t have time to lend a hand.  I’d also recommend doing any races, fund-raisers, or anything else to help fund the treatment of cancer.

  1. Simon Cancer Foundation
  2. American Cancer Society
  3. Ovarian Cancer Coalition
  4. Ashley Fister Cole Foundation
  5. Susan Komen

Again, good luck Steve.  Maybe you’re not as sick as I and other bloggers are thinking. If not, then I’m sorry. If so, then I applaud you for getting up there and doing what you love: showing your company and talents to the world.

Make Those Rich Bastards Pay09.02.08

Disclaimer: I know these attorneys, and I helped build the site.  Nonetheless, I love the law and hope that S & P and the other law firms out there help clean up some of the white collar crime out there.  Nothing upset me more than the Enron scandal, and this is tool in the toolbox to help fight that battle.

There is more to it than what I’m about to say, but you’ll get the basic idea.  If you know of a business or individual that has underreported at least $2,000,000 in taxes, then you can turn them into the IRS and be rewarded up to 30% of the amount collected.  In other words, say your employer has buried $10,000,000 in some tax shelter, and you rat them out, you’re entitled to up to $3,000,000.  Not a bad gig if you can get it. The name of this program is the Tax Whistleblower Rewards Program.

There are a bunch of tax whistleblower attorneys out there, but the guys at RewardTax are former IRS attorneys.  According to them, and again I’m inclined to believe them since I’ve met them personally, this gives them an insider knowledge that greatly helps your chances of getting the full 30% reward.

In the interest of being fair, here is what I don’t like about the whole deal. First, you have to be very careful.  I imagine the type of people willing to cheat on their taxes to the tune of $2,000,000 or more are probably the same type of people that would do very awful things to those who crossed them.  Second, there is no guarantee the IRS is going to give the award. Even if you have the best attorney in the world, the IRS still has to accept a case and collect the money.  That being said, the IRS is pretty serious about this program.

Working with S & P Law Firm has given me the opportunity to research this program quite extensively.  I’ve scoured every word of all the sites of attorneys that let you report tax fraud. In the end, when you pick your attorney I would look for the following qualifications:

  1. They know the program and the law inside and out.
  2. They take confidentiality very seriously.
  3. They answer every question you have and take their time with you.

If you, my dearest reader, knows someone cheating on their taxes while the rest of us follow the rules, then turn them in to the IRS.  You might make some money too!

Gas Mileage for 2000 Hyundai Elantra07.29.08

I’ve been cooking an experiment here at JustinSpeak.  My car, a 2000 Hyundai Elantra, is fairly fuel efficient, but not all the time.  So, I’ve been using www.fuelfrog.com to track my gas mileage.  I’ve been doing this since May and was going to have one big post at the end of the experiment but will instead sort of keep a running account on the project.  The results will be found on a new page of JustinSpeak titled “Gas Mileage.” Enjoy!

No No Kill Shelter?06.25.08

I just got a lovely dog.  She’s a Spaniel, Terrier, Saint Bernard, Collie, Fluffy thing. We got her from a local no kill shelter in Saint Louis. I’ve always thought that no kill shelters were the greatest thing ever.  Well, it turns out that PETA doesn’t think so. In fact, PETA discouages no kills. Rather than donate to one of these shelters, go the Bob Barker route.

Spay and neuter your pets! I agree with PETA that there should be a law that says any dog taken in to any shelter must go through a sterilization process before anything else happens. I also agree that puppy mills should be shut down.  The problem is that people get enamored with a breed of a dog but don’t want to pay the premium price of a legit breeder.  There is, of course, nothing wrong with getting a full bred dog so long as the animal doesn’t come from some bullshit shady source.  It’s like anything else, do your research before you make your purchase. If you find out about a puppy mill, report the sick bastards.

Don’t buy animals from any shop in a mall either.

Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman’s back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days. — Crash Davis
